A golden retriever sits in a field of yellow flowers while a black and white cat playfully reaches up and touches the dog's face with its front paws. A fluffy white dog licks the face of a relaxed calico cat, which is wrapped in a beige blanket. Both animals appear comfortable and affectionate.

Spaying or neutering is about more than preventing litters. It is one of the most important steps you can take for your pet’s long-term health and comfort.
  • Better health – Lowers the risk of certain cancers and infections
  • Better behaviour – Can reduce roaming, spraying, or aggression
  • Better community – Helps prevent pet overpopulation and reduces shelter intake
  • Better for your budget – Avoids the long-term costs of unplanned litters and related medical issues

What to expect on surgery day

We know surgery days can feel stressful, even for routine procedures. Here’s what you and your pet can expect for a routine spay/neuter appointment:

  • Warm welcome and check-in – Our team will greet you, confirm details, and answer any last questions before you head out. Multiple pets arrive at the same time so we ask you to anticipate up to a 20 minute wait for complete surgical intake. Hint: Filling out your consent forms prior to your surgical date moves things along a little quicker!
  • Getting comfortable – Your pet will rest in a clean, cozy space with fresh bedding and gentle handling. Please do not bring any bedding or toys from home – we don’t want anything to be misplaced!
  • Pre-surgical exam – The veterinarian performing your pet’s procedure will examine them to ensure they are ready for anaesthesia. If anything changes the plan, we will call you before moving forward, or recommend next steps if unforeseen circumstances need procedure cancellation.
  • Surgery and monitoring – Your pet will have dedicated technicians by their side throughout the entire process. From induction to recovery, our trained staff will be tracking heart rate, breathing, and comfort.
  • Recovery and updates – Once surgery is complete, we will keep your pet warm and comfortable, while continuously monitoring their recovery process. Please feel free to call and check in on your pet during their stay!
  • Going home – We will review aftercare instructions with you, provide medications, and make sure you feel confident about helping your pet recover from their procedure.

Most pets are ready between 4 and 6 months of age. For larger dog breeds, we may recommend waiting a bit longer to support healthy growth and development. We will help you decide on the best timing during a pre-surgical consultation.
Yes. Spay and neuter surgeries are among the most common procedures we perform. We use advanced anaesthesia monitoring, thorough pre-surgical exams, and gentle handling to keep your pet safe and comfortable from start to finish.
We use a comprehensive pain management plan that starts before surgery, continues during the procedure, and includes take-home medication for the first few days after. Most pets are back to their normal selves within a week or two.
Most pets recover in 10 to 14 days. During that time, keep activity low, use the e-collar we provide, and check the incision daily for swelling, redness, or discharge.
We ask that you do not give your pet any food and water after 8:00 PM the night before surgery.
Your pet’s personality will not change, but certain behaviours related to hormones (like roaming or marking) may decrease. Any weight change after surgery is usually due to lower activity levels, which can be managed with diet and exercise.
